Weed Watcher Program

PROTECTING OUR NATURAL RESOURCE

JPSOA’s Weed Watcher Program is a no-cost, no paperwork early warning system perfect for kayakers, canoers, and paddleboarders. Weed Watchers are resident volunteers who familiarize themselves with native plants so they can monitor a portion of the shoreline about once a month from May to September. Weed Watchers are provided with kits from NH Lakes Association with information about native plants and the exotics we want to avoid. If something unusual is discovered growing, they report it to our Weed Watcher Coordinator Pat Dowst who, in turn, contacts NH DES.

WHY IS A WEED WATCHER PROGRAM NECESSARY?

This volunteer program provides shoreline monitoring to intercept the proliferation of non-native plants that could become problematic and costly to eradicate. As our climate becomes further disrupted and we experience extreme shifts in temperature and rainfall, it’s essential to protect Jenness Pond from invasive species, which would degrade water quality, threaten aquatic life, and lower property values.

INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING?

Please reach out to Pat Dowst at pattydowst@gmail.com with your name, preferred contact method (phone or email). We have a wonderful group of established volunteers and are always looking for new volunteers to join our ranks.
